Shannon DeGiacomo-Brown

Role & Responsibilities

Shannon DeGiacomo-Brown is an Integration Facilitator in Confederation College's Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) program. She supports students with diverse learning needs in a variety of courses across the College, providing individualized academic support and adapting assignments, tests, and learning materials while maintaining the integrity of course outcomes. Shannon also works closely with faculty, student services, and community partners to support student success, inclusion, and workplace learning opportunities.

Professional Background

Shannon DeGiacomo-Brown brings more than 20 years of experience supporting students in nursery, elementary, secondary, and post-secondary educational settings. She is a graduate of Confederation College's Developmental Services Worker program and Assiniboine Community College's Comprehensive Health Care Aide program. Prior to joining Confederation College, Shannon worked as a Student Support Professional with Lakehead Public Schools and as a Specialized Teacher's Assistant in Manitoba, supporting students with a wide range of learning, behavioural, communication, and physical support needs.

Teaching

Although not a classroom instructor, Shannon works alongside faculty to support student learning and engagement. Her experience includes modifying learning materials, providing individual and small-group tutoring, supporting classroom participation, and helping students develop the academic, life, and employment skills needed to succeed in post-secondary education.

Creative Work, Research, or Industry Experience

Shannon has extensive experience supporting students in community and workplace placements. She has coordinated placements, provided on-site mentoring, assisted students in developing employment skills, and collaborated with employers and community organizations to create meaningful experiential learning opportunities. She has also contributed to the development of recruitment and promotional materials for the CICE program.

Community Involvement

Shannon is passionate about supporting individuals both within the College and in the broader community. In addition to her work with students, she has participated in the CICE Advisory Committee, collaborated with local schools and organizations, and volunteered as a coach with Special Olympics Thunder Bay. Through these experiences, she enjoys helping individuals build confidence, develop new skills, and achieve their personal goals.
