Oona Szyja is a full-time accounting professor at Confederation College, where she develops and delivers accounting courses. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Laurentian University, Oona brings more than 20 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and post-secondary education.

Prior to joining the College as a full-time professor, Oona gained over 25 years of accounting experience working in the private and public sectors. She has experience in daily bookkeeping, up to and including, the creation of financial statements and tax filings. Oona spent time as a GST/HST auditor with the federal government, an RST auditor with the provincial government, and a senior training specialist with the provincial government. In those roles she conducted audits, developed training programs, and mentored staff across the province of Ontario.

Oona is the author of two introductory financial accounting textbooks, currently used by Confederation College, and is committed to supporting student success through practical applied learning and strong industry connections.

Through ongoing professional development, Oona stays up to date on evolving accounting standards and regulations. In addition, Oona currently serves as treasurer for Hymers Agricultural Society and regularly volunteers for charitable organizations.
