Indigenous Interventions and Healing Practice

Students will learn to critically examine and reflect on the historic, economic, social, cultural and political determinants of Indigenous health using a range of theories and frameworks .The course will examine social issues such as intergenerational trauma, addictions, family violence, FASD, grief and suicide which affect the health and wellbeing of the Indigenous family. It will examine the historic and contemporary conditions that have contributed to the development of these issues. Students will learn about the emerging interventions at the prevention, intervention and treatment levels which are being designed by Indigenous peoples to address these issues in a culturally relevant manner that strengthens Indigenous families, communities and nations.
