Hematology and Transfusion Medicine

The student will develop an understanding of the specimen requirements for routine Hematology and Transfusion Medicine tests. The student will gain an understanding of reference ranges for routine tests and the significance of variant results. The student will perform routine pre-analytical procedures related to Hematology. The student will learn about automated analyzers and their role in Hematology and Transfusion Medicine. The student will gain an understanding of the various blood products used in the clinical setting.
