Negahneewin Community Advocacy and Mobilization

The purpose of this course is to prepare learners to strategize effectively for various types of community action. Learners will engage in a general discussion of the meaning of advocacy, the challenges of ethical advocacy, and will practice listening and speaking skills appropriate to transforming ideas into action. Project work will emphasize approaches and strategies to engage individuals and groups, methods for informing the community about issues of concern, overcoming the perception of disempowerment, risk-taking, and respecting the strengths of particular group members.
