Social and Strategic Planning

This is an introduction to the planning process, including an awareness of the fields of regional and municipal planning. Learners will focus on the rationale and process for strategic planning efforts. They will discuss key concepts and definitions, understand the basic stages of planning and the steps or conditions which are necessary to prepare an organization to undertake strategic planning. As well, there will be a discussion of the role of external consultants and the strengths and weaknesses of strategic planning as a means to develop social capital and to promote a collaborative approach to community development.
