A History of Social Change

The focus of this course is a review of major social movements within a historical context. Learners will explore not only the more well known movements within the Americas and Europe (i.e. Indigenous grass-roots movement from mid-1800's in the North West and Plains of the United States, the womens movement the black civil rights movements, and the environmental movement) but less familiar incidents or trends of grassroots resistance or transformation over the past four centuries. This will include more recent changes in the socio-political landscape, such as neo-conservatism and fundamentalism.
