Political Economics

Learners in this course will examine the concept of political economy with particular attention to the North American context. A survey of economic history of North America, pre- and post- contact will highlight theories of sovereignty, state and nation formation, and introduce learners to different forms of economic activity such as subsistence, capitalism, socialism, etc. The course will explore the specific values inherent in economic decisions, the relationship between various sectors of the economy and institutions of democratic representation, and the interconnection of social and economic policy.
