Introduction to Development Theory

This is a lecture-based course designed to introduce learners to the theory and international practice of community development, with a particular focus on developing countries and Indigenous communities. This includes an introduction to the major theoretical issues surrounding the concept of community development, such as economic development, dependency, underdevelopment, sustainability and resource management. An important theme will be to contrast the western cultural understanding of development with alternative definitions and approaches.
