Aboriginal Economies and Self Reliance

This course will introduce the student to contemporary trends in economics, with particular focus on issues surrounding colonialism and its impacts on indigenous communities in Canada and internationally. Students will examine the history of Aboriginal communities beginning with traditional sustenance-based economies, contact with European economies, the economics of colonialism, and efforts to meet the challenges of creating self-reliance in an era of globalization.
