Forest Operations

The introductory course covers the planning, layout, and implementation of harvest, renewal, and tending operations. Emphasis is placed on environmental protection and the principles and approaches behind ecosystem management and forest sustainability. Students will gain an understanding of harvest methods and logging systems, including road construction and water crossing techniques. Collaborative approaches to forest management planning and the importance of forest certification are reviewed, all within the context of relevant provincial legislation. This course introduces students to forest renewal practices, spanning from forest operations prescription setting to free-growing status determination.
