Instructional Methods:Literacy

In this hands-on literacy course, students will be introduced to current instructional best practice in the teaching of language arts. The course begins with the theory underlying the development of language skills and the acquisition of the reading and writing processes. Students will also examine developmental stages and instructional approaches that can assist students as they acquire literacy skills. With an emphasis on responding to each learner's unique way of learning and stage of development, students will learn how to support the achievement of related curriculum objectives through a wide range of strategies. Students will have the opportunity to assess, plan, accommodate and implement appropriate curriculum expectations.
