Inclusive Classrooms & Special Education
This course introduces special education in Ontario schools, with a focus on inclusive practices and the educational assistant’s role in supporting diverse learners. Students will examine the history of inclusive education, special education policies, and service delivery models. The course introduces key legal frameworks, such as the Education Act and relevant policy/program memoranda (PPMs). Students will explore the Individual Education Plan (IEP), with a focus on the areas most relevant to the role. Cultural responsiveness, equity, and appropriate role boundaries are emphasized throughout.
