Control Systems III

This course initially introduces the student to the static and dynamic characteristics of the components involved with process control systems. In introductory laboratory work, the student learns to determine mathematical algebraic and differential equations that represent these components. Various sensing techniques and feedback control modes are then introduced and in related experiments, the student is familiarized with the tools, test equipment, and manufacturer's instructions as they apply to the configuration, calibration, and connection of industrial instrumentation. Tuning methods by actual dynamic analysis or by mathematical representation are explored and in later experiments the student is given the opportunity to investigate the dynamics of a control system as process characteristics are altered. Since optimum performance of a control system is most desirable, alternate control strategies are evaluated and compared.
