Environmental Regulations I

This course provides the student with a basic knowledge of our Canadian legislative process and our court system as they are applied for the resolution of environmental concerns. Students will analyze the components of a 'due diligence' defense. As well, this course explains how environmental legislation is enforced. Students should be able to read and interpret the key concepts of major federal environmental statutes: Canadian Environmental Protection Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, Canada Fisheries Act. Some new and proposed revisions to statutes, as well as some relevant international laws and agreements will be discussed.
