Chemistry of Pollutants

This course provides the students with a basic understanding of aims and applications of environmental science. They will examine the underlying principles of physics, chemistry and biology that 'work' our planet. Students will be able to recognize and understand the key components of a balanced 'model' ecosystem, with emphasis on the functioning of its elemental biogeochemical cycles. Students will be able to apply this model to logically and systematically analyse the impact of environmental pollutants on ecosystem dynamics; air, soil, or water. Students will understand how to evaluate environmental management alternatives in terms of ecosystem sustainability.
