Microbiology for the Hygienist

This course introduces the student to the study of microorganisms and their impact on the human body, including how they are transmitted and how the body defends against disease. Students will explore the characteristics of microorganisms—particularly bacteria and viruses—beginning with their structure, growth, and modes of transmission. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between pathogenic microorganisms and disease, especially those relevant to dental hygiene.
