Social Justice for Indigenous and LGBTQ2S++ Youth

This course provides the learner with an advanced perspective on social justice and decolonization approaches in CYC practice, particularly within residential care systems. Indigenous and LGBTQ2+++ youth encounter systemic injustices that can be replicated in the context of CYC Worker practice; thus it is essential that the worker be prepared to engage in a critical discourse around these inequities and to apply youth-driven advocacy approaches to care. Learners will come to understand their responsibility to youth in care with respect to the Indigenous right to self-determination and the need to combat systemic anti-Indigenous racism and homophobia in governmental care systems.
