Community Based Placement

This experiential course offers students the opportunity to integrate theory into the practice field placement setting. Within the context of relational CYC practice, students will apply: professional practice skills, therapeutic engagement skills, strength based assessment strategies, systems, child development and trauma theory, crisis intervention strategies, advocacy frameworks and anti-oppression skills within the life spaces of children, youth and their caregivers. Within inter- and multi-disciplinary teams, students will also apply knowledge of mental health differences, trauma and aggression, colonization and anti-Indigenous racism, Indigenous worldviews and children's rights. Students will design a professional learning plan and complete practice evaluations and reflective journals. Students are required to follow the operational schedule, policies and procedures and supervisory frameworks of their respective placement agencies.
