Indigenous and Western Models of Wellbeing
This course will allow the learner to engage in a critical examination and comparison of the western and Indigenous models of mental illness and wellness, with an emphasis on the CYC context. Learners will examine social and cultural assumptions of what constitutes normal vs. pathological behavior, cognition, and emotion. Together learners will unpack colonial ways of defining mental illness and explore Indigenous ways of knowing that promote belonging, interconnectedness and self-determination through a strength-based approach.
