Understanding and Engaging Diverse Families in CYC Practice

This course will examine the social, economic and cultural diversity of families. Theories of family systems and development are explored through case examples. Learners will explore diverse perspectives on parenting while examining child and youth care practice, applying collaborative and strength-based approaches that are grounded in an understanding of the interconnectedness of relationships (family, community, land). A key theme is the the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma on family identity.
