Placement Seminar 1

This course offers students the opportunity to discuss experiences from their first field placement and evaluate these experiences with other students through active engagement facilitated by the faculty liaison. Students will be expected to discuss themes related to team work, professionalism, therapeutic engagement skills, impact of colonization and Indigenous worldview, self awareness and reflection, programming and child development. Students will be required to engage in group discussion, provide feedback, address concerns, review placement progress and reflect on their own practice, knowledge and skills while learning from one another and community mentors. Students are also responsible for the completion of exercises and assignments that will support their placement experience. This course work allows students to take advantage of peer support to manage the challenging and often-times traumatic nature of CYC practice and refine their understanding of the concepts they are applying in practice. There is an expectation that client confidentiality will be rigorously protected.
