Approaches to Wellness for Aboriginal Women

This course examines the health issues of Aboriginal women in contemporary society with emphasis on community-based prevention, education and support programming. The roles and responsibilities of Aboriginal women in the community are diverse, often requiring women to respond to changing and stressful conditions. The experiences of Aboriginal women and the socio-economic factors that affect health issues which are unique to them will be explored. Birth control, STD's, prenatal and post-partum care of expectant mothers will also be discussed in this course. This course will encourage students to address the health care needs of Aboriginal women in a wholistic manner.
