Understanding Mental Illness and Treatment Approaches

This course will identify the more common mental health disorders currently known and being treated in the Aboriginal community. Various approaches that can be used for helping people in Aboriginal communities deal with mental health issues will be carefully examined; as well, these approaches will be utilized in developing appropriate strategies for working with mental health issues today. Treatment options will be explained and examined, providing the worker with key information on recognition, assessment, intervention, and aftercare.
