Basic Approaches to Community Development

This course will provide students with an overview of community development principles and how these principles can be applied to Aboriginal communities. The development goals of Aboriginal communities throughout North-western Ontario will be discussed throughout this course with a view to addressing current social and political conditions. Specific emphasis on the efforts of the Ojibwe and Cree Peoples that comprise North-western and North-eastern Ontario will be discussed at length. The external and internal factors that affect community development will be elaborated upon in case studies.
