Epistemology of Concurrent Disorders

This course examines the field of concurrent disorders and pays particular attention to our current understanding of concurrent disorders. Students will gain an understanding of the historic division between mental health and addictions and the more recent practice of current disorders; as well as examine their own values and beliefs about the etiology of mental health and addictions. The course will also explore the intricate network of concurrent disorder programs in Ontario and Northern Ontario as well as the resources and challenges for Aboriginal and Northern communities. Finally, students will be exposed to and come to understand the many different types of concurrent disorders and the levels of interventions required.
