Paramedic: Hospital Clinical

Students will apply theoretical and practical concepts of previous courses through observation and participation in various selected hospital clinical areas. Students will gain an understanding of the role of hospital staff in the continuing care of pre-hospital patients. This clinical experience will provide opportunities for the Paramedic student to see the influence of pre-hospital care as part of the greater continuum of patient care. It provides a supervised opportunity for assessments and skills development with a key member of a health care team. The following clinical areas may be utilized: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Recovery Room, Emergency Department (ED), Labour and Delivery – Nursery, Pediatrics Unit, and St. Joseph’s Care Group Safe Sobering Site. Any patient care provided by the Paramedic student will be performed under the direct supervision of a Hospital Clinical Guide assigned to the clinical area, with additional oversight by a Confederation College Hospital Clinical Instructor.
