Overview

Accepting applications now for INTAKE!

We are currently accepting applications for EMBARK, an Indigenous Journey in STEM Education – refers to Science, Trades, Engineering and Math. The program is designed to honor and reflect Indigenous knowledge, and will have a large land based, and cultural component. Students in the program this year built a birch bark canoe.

Tuition for this special program is currently being paid for by Confederation College’s strategic fund. However, students will need to find other funding for their living allowances. Our Indigenous student Navigator, can help apply for funding through band sponsorship, scholarships, grants, or OSAP.

The program has:

  • A dedicated Elder
  • A dedicated Indigenous Navigator – who can help connect students to services in the city or at the College
  • Additional supports as needed (ex. Daycare, housing, books, technology requirements)

Students will gain the skills you need to be successful in our Technology, Natural Resource, or Skilled trades programs.

We will help you gently gain the skills you need to be successful in our Indigenous Specific Pre Tech program. Students will then enroll in our free Indigenous Pre-Tech Certificate program. After that we will help you apply to one of our Technology, Natural Resource, or Skilled trades programs.

Employment Opportunities

We’re accepting applications for our fall 2023 intake of the one-year certificate program; EMBARK - Indigenous STEAM (science, engineering, technology, art, and math).

In this program you will quickly form lasting connections with other students, college staff and community members through experiential learning activities both on the land and in the classroom. Students in the past have made snowshoes, gauntlet mitts, baskets, hide tanning, and a birch bark canoe. You will also learn the basics in trades such as welding, carpentry, and motive power. As well as the skills important in programs such as civil engineering, mining, environmental or forestry technician.

After successfully finishing the certificate program you will have the prerequisites needed for the Aircraft Maintenance program and Electrical Engineering, and many of the other Trade and Technology programs at the College.
