Blackboard - Learning Management System

Service Description

Confederation College uses Blackboard Learn™ as its main learning management system. Blackboard Learn™ is an online/web-based software application that offers a rich set of tools, features, and resources to help greatly enhance the teaching, as well as the learning environment.  Faculty may use Blackboard Learn™ to create a virtual classroom environment for their students to help support synchronous and asynchronous classroom deliveries.

Blackboard Learn™ includes a host of tools/features for faculty, including:

  • Announcements (course and system level)
  • Assessments, including a wide variety of tests/quizzes/surveys
  • Links to e-mail
  • Discussion boards
  • Blogs
  • Collaboration sessions
  • Upload/download course documents
  • Grade Centre
  • Wikis
  • Integration with some class textbooks
  • Mobile application support (iOS & Android devices)
  • And more…..

In order to access the Blackboard Learn™, you must have an account within the system and be registered in at least one course that exists in Blackboard.  Students are automatically enrolled in Blackboard Learn™ courses when they register in a program or course at the College within the Banner Student Information system.  Similarly, faculty are given access to Blackboard Learn™ courses as instructors when they are assigned courses to teach in the Banner Student Information system.  All users wanting to access Blackboard Learn™ must login to the system using their regular College network username and password credentials.

In addition to Blackboard Learn™, the College also uses the Blackboard Collaborate™ Web Conferencing, Instant Messaging, and Voice Authoring application tools.

Who Can Use This Service

All College students and employees may use the Blackboard Learn™ and Blackboard Collaborate™ software products.

Access and Availability

Blackboard Learn™ and Blackboard Collaborate™ software products are online/web-based products that can be accessed anytime if you have an Internet-connected computing device with a web-browser or supporting app.

The College’s Blackboard Learn™ system may be accessed logging into the MyCampus Portal web application from the College’s main website and then clicking on the Blackboard icon from within the LaunchPad area.  Blackboard Collaborate software products are accessed from within Blackboard Learn™ courses if these tools have been made available to that specific course.
