Centre for Learning And Student Success (CLASS)
An initiative of Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Lakehead Public Schools & Confederation College
Summer CLASS is a unique opportunity for high school students to experience college without missing any time during the school year. Through the support of School, College, Work Initiative (SCWI) this program offers a summer experience where students can achieve credits and gain the skills and confidence to make informed decisions for a college future.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Who is Summer CLASS for?
Summer CLASS will offer senior students (beginning third year of high school in September) a choice of college-delivered dual credits courses in the AM. In the afternoon these students, as well as intermediate students (those entering Grade 10 in September), will complete assigned tasks to meet the expectations of an unsuccessful course during the previous school year (credit recovery).
Where is Summer CLASS?
All Summer CLASS experiences are at Confederation College’s beautiful Thunder Bay Campus. This central location is ideal for students from anywhere in the city. Regular bus service and ample parking space makes Confederation College a great venue.
Why attend Summer CLASS?
- To complete OSSD requirements (if eligible)
- Experience a college course
- Recover a missed credit to open options for timetable next year
- Build skills and confidence for a smooth transition from secondary to postsecondary education
- A unique opportunity without the normal costs of a college education. No tuition, student fees, textbooks and transportation costs
What are dual credits?
A dual credit is a course students earn both a high school credit and a college credit. That’s right! A college credit to use once in college. These courses are delivered by college professors, and students are supported by a high school teacher throughout the course. One course, two credits. Now that’s a great deal!
