The Developmental Services Worker Program thoroughly prepared me to support individuals in the education system. Through current course material and valuable field placement experiences, I acquired the theoretical and practical skills to promote inclusion, modify student academic work, employ strategies to help students learn new skills, and to foster student success. I obtained employment with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board immediately after completing the DSW program, where I worked as a Student Support Person. This experience and my DSW training paved the way for me to obtain my “dream job” of working as an Integration Facilitator in the Community Integration through Cooperative Education Program (CICE) at Confederation College. In this role, I provide direct assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities and learning challenges to experience college life and further develop their academic and vocational skills.
