WC 126 - T-Joints

Team Taught

Students will identify and complete the different welding procedures for T-joints in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Welding exercises are demonstrated using 6010-11 and 7018 electrodes in these positions and specific safety precautions for overhead welding are addressed. Students enrolled in Manufacturing Technology and trade relevant SHSM programs will be automatically selected for dual credit studies. Non-SHSM students studying technology courses will be screened and interviewed at the school level. The program will be delivered at St. Patrick High Schools with classes delivered at the college two days per month. Some student transportation will be required.

HC 121 - Applied Work Practices

Team Taught

 This course introduces students to accident prevention, various hand and power tools, measuring tools, testing and shop equipment as it applies to Motive Power Trades. The student gains an understanding of fasteners, tubing, fittings, fuels, lubricants, coolants, sealants and adhesives. A basic knowledge of blueprint reading, drawing, welding, cutting and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and machine operation is ensured. Students involved in Transportation Technology and SHSM trade programs. Students enrolled in Transportation Technology and trade relevant SHSM programs will be automatically selected for dual credit studies. Non-SHSM students studying technology courses will be screened and interviewed at the school level. The program will be delivered in the Thunder Bay Catholic DSB High Schools with classes delivered at the college two days per month. Some student transportation will be required.

CT 121 - Basic Hand Tools

Team Taught

This dual credit activity will be part of the board's Construction Specialist High Skills Major program. Students in the board's Construction SHSM many of who are at-risk students. Students accepted in the board's Construction SHSM will be automatic candidates for the program. The program will be delivered at St. Patrick/St. Ignatius High School with classes delivered at the college at least five times. Student busing transportation will be required.

Team Taught

Students in Grade 11 and 12 drafting courses will be aligned with Confederation College Engineering technology programs through SHSM programs (Construction, Manufacturing and Transportation), Students in Grade 11 and 12 drafting courses aspiring to college engineering Technology programs. The program will be delivered in the Thunder Bay Catholic DSB High Schools with classes delivered at the college at least 10 times a semester. Student bus transportation will be required.

College Link and Jump Start are secondary programs offered by the respective school boards at Confederation College. Both are student success programs emphasizing communication, literacy and planning for the future. Students complete credits with the goal of earning an OSSD. The dual-credits provide students the opportunity to experience college, earn a credit, and therefore be better prepared for the future

High School students can attend college with an opportunity to earn credits by participating in college courses that count towards their secondary school diploma and their college diploma or certification. The College Now program provides opportunities to explore career prospects and helps ensure a successful transition to college. Dual credit courses also engage students to the college setting and culture, provide a smooth transition from secondary to post secondary education. Evidence has shown that dual credit programs increase the likelihood of graduation success and reduce dropout  rates.
