Confederation College

Further to last night’s water shut-down, there will be an additional shut-down required TODAY, May 19 from 4:30pm to about 7:00pm in the McIntyre Building, Greenstone Building and Sibley Hall Residence.

Please do not use the water in these buildings during this time. This includes using washroom and shower facilities, emergency hand wash and eye wash stations, emergency showers, running taps, etc. All activities involving chemicals or airborne debris should be rescheduled to another date since the emergency stations will not be accessible during this time.

There will still need to be an entirely separate water shut-down at some point in the future, which will be communicated in advance. Please refer to the below (original) communication for full details of what to expect during the shut-down.

Re: May 18 Shut-Down (original communication)

The construction of our Technology, Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub is coming along quite nicely! We thank everyone for the patience and understanding they have demonstrated throughout this project so far.

In order to complete some upcoming steps in the construction, we would like to share two important updates, which may impact you starting this week. Please see the below information:

1) MCINTYRE FRONT ENTRANCE CLOSURE – Starting May 15

As of today, Monday, May 15, the front entrance of the McIntyre Building, and the main entrance to our Children and Family Centre will be closed for the duration of construction. For the safest route to access the alternate entrances, students in residence and individuals needing to approach the McIntyre Building on foot from the east side are asked to refer to the alternative route map. If you need to travel this route at night, please ensure you have a charged cell phone with you that has the number to Campus Security pre-programmed in (807-623-0465). We also highly recommend that you walk in pairs or small groups or contact Security to accompany you.

For clients of the Children and Family Centre, Parking Lot P will also be closed and the new drop-off/pick-up zone will be in Parking Lot N on the south side of the McIntyre Building (accessible from Nipigon Road’s west entrance (off of William Street).

2) WATER SHUT-DOWN – May 18 starting at 4:30 p.m. (McIntyre, Greenstone & Sibley Hall Buildings)

In order to complete part of the water work needed in support of the construction project, the water in the McIntyre Building, Greenstone Building and Sibley Hall Residence will need to be temporarily shut down on Thursday, May 18 starting at 4:30 p.m.

The shut-down should be completed by approximately 11:00 p.m. that evening (May 18).

During the shut-down, people working, studying or living within the affected buildings will need to access washrooms in the Shuniah Building. Students in the Sibley Hall residence will also have a porta potty temporarily provided, and if needed, can access showers in the Fitness Centre.

There will need to be another water shut-down at some point in the near future. Additional communication with the confirmed date and time will be provided to you in advance.
