Confederation College

Business will continue as per usual at Confederation College following the faculty vote across Ontario’s 24 colleges to give their union a strike mandate. The mandate does not guarantee there will be a strike. Of the 12 strike votes in the past 50 years at Ontario colleges, only three have led to a strike.

We remain hopeful that a fair settlement will be reached before the current collective agreement expires at the end of September. The bargaining teams for the colleges and for the faculty union will resume negotiating next week.

The union will be responsible for deciding whether faculty across the province will strike or not. They are required to give advanced notice which has not been provided at this time.

If there is a strike, Confederation will ensure that our students have the opportunity to complete their year. It is important to note that no student at an Ontario college has ever lost their year due to a strike.

We encourage our students to stay focused on their studies and ask that they continue to respect faculty and other employees of the College as negotiations continue.

Please be assured that we will keep you informed throughout this process. You can also learn more at the College Employer Council… and OPSEU… websites.
