Arrival Checklist for International Students

Airport Pickup & Accommodation

Students can be met at the airport and brought to their accommodations. Please notify the IEC with a minimum of five working days notice to ensure a planned pick up. To learn more about this service, please visit our Safe Arrivals page.

Long Term Accommodations

There are a variety of places to choose from. International Students can take advantage of homestay accommodations or one of our college residences. Full-time students have the option to reside in residence, homestays, or in off-campus housing. Please go to accommodations for more information.

Orientation includes information that will introduce students to Confederation College, Thunder Bay and to key individuals who will help them throughout the year. Orientation is mandatory and is a great opportunity to meet other international students and to participate in a variety of fun activities. Please visit the orientation tab for specific dates.

Insurance and Health Care

Health insurance is included with the international student tuition fees, and is provided by Study Insured by Ingle International. Health insurance coverage will start with the beginning of the program (September 1, January 1, or May 1), so if you plan to arrive in Canada before the start of class you should purchase your own international coverage or visit the Study Insured website to purchase ”Visitor to Canada” insurance. Additionally, pre-existing health conditions are not covered for medical care by your health insurance and students need to plan in advance for these expenses.

Professional health care workers, nurses, dietitians etc. are available during the school year at the College’s Health Centre for non-emergency appointments. For information on Health Centre services available please visit the Health Centre webpage. Students needing emergency care must visit the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences hospital.
