Utilizing the Indigenous Learning Outcomes to Assess the Global Citizenship of Learners, Phase One: Creating a Critical Thinking Assessment Tool That is Culturally-Relevant

  • Duration: April 1, 2016 – August 31, 2019
  • Funder: Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario (HEQCO)
  • Partners: College-Wide
  • Purpose: Create an assessment tool congruent with Indigenous understandings of critical thinking, to determine how knowledge, skills, and attitudes within Indigenous Learning Outcomes (ILOs) have informed critical thinking skills of all learners in a variety of College programs
  • Deliverables: Assessment tool, Anchor Paper, Handbook, Institutional Professional Development opportunities

Negahneewin “leading the way”: Supporting community development through Indigenous women’s leadership

  • Duration: June 2016 – March 2019
  • Funder: Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
  • Partners: Ontario Native Women’s Association, Bora Laskin Faculty of Law (Lakehead University)
  • Purpose: To enhance community development through the creation of a 14 week Board of Governors certified Indigenous women’s leadership certificate
  • Deliverables:  Final report on wise practices and lessons learned and curriculum and policy recommendations  

Coming Full Circle: Evaluating the success and sustainability of our ‘Pathways for Indigenous Learners’ model

  • Duration: June 2016 – March 2019
  • Funder: Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT)
  • Partners: Trent University, First Nations Technical Institute, Lakehead University, Algoma University, Canadore College, Mohawk University, Lambton College, Northern College, Sault College, Algonquin College, Laurentian University, Queens University, University of Sudbury, Nipissing University, George Brown College
  • Purpose: To evaluate the process and outcomes of our model for creating pathways for Indigenous learners and to develop and tool for monitoring the pathways implemented by the project’s partnering institutions
  • Deliverables:  Project report, evaluative tool, model for monitoring pathways for Indigenous Learners

Nadamaage: Supporting Indigenous Student Success through a Proactive Advising Pilot Project

  • Duration: September 2018 – March 2019
  • Funder: Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)
  • Partners: In partnership with Education Policy Research Initiative, University of Ottawa
  • Purpose: To understand and measure the role of a Proactive Advising Pilot project on the success of Indigenous learners who are enrolled at the College in their first semester
  • Deliverables:  Project report, proactive advising model

Project Evaluation:

Formative Evaluation of Confederation College’s Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program

  • Partners: In partnership with the Learning Resources Division (OPAIP Project Lead), Confederation College
  • Purpose: To provide and external evaluation for Confederation College’s Ontario Postsecondary Access and Inclusion Program
  • Deliverables:  Formative Evaluation tool, annual evaluation reports

Formative Evaluation for a WATEP Business Development Project for Indigenous Communities

  • Partners: In partnership with Workforce Development (WATEP Project Lead), Confederation College
  • Purpose: To provide an external formative evaluation for the WATEP project (Water Authority Training and Education Program)
  • Deliverables:  Formative evaluation tool, annual evaluation reports


  • Partner: Ontario Colleges of Art and Design University (OCAD U) (Project Lead)
  • Purpose: To provide an external evaluation on OCAD U’s two year ONCAT funded project focused on developing Indigenous related pathways
