WHAT AM I EXPECTED TO DO?
Once you have received your gown and associate hood from the tent outside you will go into the auditorium and follow the signs to the floor your program is on. A staff or faculty member will hand you a card with your name on it (this is what the Orator on stage will use to call your name). Students with a 3.5 GPA or higher will receive an honour cord. You will then be lined up in alphabetical order per program until the ceremonies start.
Watch the graduate in front of you. You will be led in procession. Stay standing until after “O Canada”. You will be signaled when your row is to get up and walk to the announcer’s side. You will be instructed to walk up to the Orator, hand them your name card and whisper your name to them. Once your name is announced you are to walk across the stage. You will be greeted by the President, a Board of Governors’ member, the Dean of your school and your program Coordinator/designate. The President will hand you a diploma case on stage. You will then be led by staff on stage behind the curtain to be given your credential and directed back to a seat on stage. Do not leave anything behind. You may not return to the same seat.
You will need to decide what program you wish to cross the stage with as you will only be crossing the stage once. Both credentials will be given to you after you cross the stage.
Depending on the award you may receive it on stage or as part of your credential package. Some awards may be mailed at a later date if award assessments cannot be completed in time for the ceremony.
Once you’ve crossed the stage instead of returning to your seat please advise the stage staff you have to leave. They will guide you in exiting the stage.
You will receive your credential once you cross the stage before you are directed back to your seat.
