Communication skills, both written and oral are vital in the day-to-day life of a professional early childhood educator. Staff in early childhood education settings are frequently required to create written documents as a means of sharing information with parents, professionals and community members. As well, strong communication skills enhance the image of staff in child care settings as a professional group of people.This course will assist students in developing some of the communication skills necessary to succeed both in the post-secondary academic environment and in the professional world. The students will learn how to research a topic, document sources using the MLA method, organize and write a formal research paper. A special emphasis will be placed on the concepts of academic integrity and the avoidance of plagiarism.
