Fitness Centre Transitions to New Student Wellness Centre
This construction project has been completed and officially opened in September, 2017.
Award of Design-Build Contract
Tom Jones Corporation was the successful bidder to the Confederation College RFP for the Design-Build of a new Student Wellness Centre. A Preliminary Phase Design Services Contract was signed by TJC and the College on July 6, and preliminary planning work on the design has begun. TJC has partnered with Form Architecture for the design services, along with a number of other specialty contractors with expertise in specific components of the project.
Both TJC and Form Architecture have experience working with the College on previous projects: REACH, Biomass, ACE, CLC Residences. The RFP#15-S-0117 Design & Build Wellness Centre was originally posted on March 11, 2015 and closed on April 21, 2015.
The new Student Wellness Centre is being built as part of our development of the ‘Student Village’, which also includes new student accommodations. The new centre will be a student-driven facility dedicated to supporting our students in their learning and in leading a healthy lifestyle while studying at the College.
Conceptually, the new facility will be a full service Wellness Centre that will incorporate fitness centre elements as well as the potential to provide space for college services that support students. The new centre will be designed primarily to support student needs and our College community. It is supported by the Student Union both in concept and through financial allocation.
Confederation College plans to have the new facility built by 2017, at which time it currently plans to cease operations of the existing Fitness Centre facility. Options for what to do with the existing facility are still being explored. The College plans for a transition to the new facility with as little disruption as possible to the college community and membership.
We greatly value the continued support of our stakeholders welcome your feedback and questions.
